Ireland India Institute Conference on South Asia 2018: Keynote Speakers

We are elated to announce our Keynote Speakers for the Second Ireland India Institute Conference on South Asia 2018 (26th-27th April).
Dr. Caroline Osella, Reader in Anthropology with reference to South Asia,

will be joining us from SOAS London to speak on ‘The persistence of colonial stereotypes in contemporary South Asian Masculinities’. Dr. Osella has worked since 1989 in Kerala, south Indiaand with Malayali migrants in the Gulf states. Her broadest research interest has been the ways in which projects of identity crafting are brought back to the body, while socially constructed bodies are differentiated to reflect class, ethnic and gender differences and to forge social hierarchies.

Dr. Priyamvada Gopal, Reader in Anglophone
and Related Literature, University of Cambridge,

will be speaking on ‘Intellectuals as ‘interpreters of insurgency’. Contemporary South Asian scholars will benefit greatly from Dr. Gopal’s rich contribution to colonial and postcolonial literature and theory.

We are looking forward to exciting interactions.
